چکیده
his chapter discusses reasons for the rapid increases in health care costs. Even though hospital services are by far the largest segment of U.S. health care spending, expenditures on other services, such as physicians’ services and prescription drugs have increased at a faster rate. The cost growth is attributed to medical price inflation, the growth in volume of services, and the growth in intensity of services. Most expenditures are driven, not by inflating medical prices, but rather by the increasing volume and intensity of services. In the next decade, the rate of cost growth is expected to accelerate.

Allocation of construction risks between clients and their contractors has a significant impact on the total construction costs. This paper presents a system dynamics (SD)-based approach for quantitative risk allocation. Using the proposed SD based approach, all the factors affecting the risk allocation process are modeled. The contractor’s defensive strategies against the one-sided risk alloca...

متن کاملThe Need for a Dynamic Approach to Health System-Centered Innovations; Comment on “What Health System Challenges Should Responsible Innovation in Health Address? Insights From an International Scoping Review”
Lehoux and colleagues plea for a health systems perspective to evaluate innovations. Since many innovations and their scale-up strategies emerge from processes that are not (centrally) steered, we plea for any assessment with a dynamic, instead of a sequential, approach. We provide further guidance on how to adopt such dynamic approach, in order to better un-derstand an...
متن کاملTracking health care costs: declining growth trend pauses in 2004.
Health care spending increased 8.2 percent in 2004. This was virtually unchanged from 2003, which suggests that health care cost trends have stabilized. Hospital spending grew 10.1 percent in 2004, also virtually unchanged from 2003, reflecting a small increase in the hospital utilization trend and a small decline in hospital price inflation. Meanwhile, growth in prescription drug spending cont...
